The Need for Ocean Imagery

The Marine Photobank is a leading visual resource that has galvanized people from all over the planet to collect, share and download marine photos, images and graphics that shed light on how humans have affected life in the ocean. The Marine Photobank was founded in response to a lack of readily available, high quality underwater and above water ocean conservation images. These images are available at no cost for non-commercial purposes as well as for media use.

Photographers Are The Foundation

The Marine Photobank inspires photographers to actively engage in ocean issues by contributing captivating marine conservation photos and images of our ocean ecosystem. We’ve already networked with a wide array of generous professional photographers, amateur photographers, researchers, educators, NGO’s and agencies from around the world. You can learn about the people behind the photos in the Photographer Profiles. We have also created opportunities for professional photographers to generate some potential revenue from media usage and referrals.

Take Pictures, Contribute From Your Collection

The Marine Photobank encourages people to upload marine conservation images. Our team reviews all submissions and selects images that convey a clear ocean conservation message. We welcome your photo contributions as a way to share your view of the ocean world with others. Contribute Your Photos.

Our Members

Our members include research institutions, educational programs, agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGO’s), media and the public. Members utilize these images for a broad array of projects and news stories. In addition, thousands of individuals learn about ocean issues by perusing the galleries and downloading our educational modules and other materials. Interested individuals simply need to apply for a Free Membership and agree to the Usage Terms. Photos are also available to media under special Media Usage Terms and agree to compensate professional photographers if requested.

Community Sharing Resource

The Marine Photobank networks a myriad of photographers and entities through images. Each photo contains detailed information on the contributor, their weblink and other information. This enables members, photographers and visitors alike to learn more about marine issues and the people behind the photos. We have also created Photo Stories and Educational Modules to provide greater understanding of ocean impacts and their solutions.

The Marine Photobank is a program of SeaWeb, a communications based NGO that uses social marketing to advance ocean conservation.
